Wier & Associates, Inc. provided design services for reconstruction of .9 miles of roadway. The project consists of widening the existing four-lane undivided street to a five-lane undivided street with free right-turn lanes at major intersections. Project also included design for improving an existing enclosed drainage system to alleviate existing flooding problems, water and sanitary sewer line replacements, and street lighting improvements. Services included field design surveys and preparation of construction plans, right-of-way plans, and easement parcels. Construction scheduled for 2008. Construction cost: $2,563,000.

Sublett Road

Wier & Associates, Inc. provided design services for the reconstruction and widening of 1.9 miles of this existing two-lane road into a six-lane arterial street. Design included a 180-foot long, six-lane bridge crossing over Rush Creek and a 1/2-mile Hike and Bike Trail adjacent to roadway to connect up City parks. Construction Completed July 2000 - Construction cost: $6,400,000.

South Collins Street

Wier & Associates, Inc. performed field-design surveys and preliminary evaluation of alternatives for widening of 1.6 miles of South Collins Street from a substandard two-lane uncurbed roadway to a six-lane divided boulevard. Design and preparation of construction plans and contract documents for roadway and storm drainage improvements for reconstruction were prepared. Construction completed 1993 - Construction cost: $2,000,000.

Lamar Blvd. Extension

Lamar Boulevard in North Arlington was extended westward to connect (at future Green Oaks Boulevard) with the future extension of John T. White Road in Fort Worth. The extension of Lamar must traverse an alignment along con­strained right-of-way bordered by existing high value homes, and further complicated by a 64-foot vertical drop along an escarpment requiring a 39-foot high final fill section. Construction plans for the roadway improvements included two $1,027,000 drilled shaft retaining walls, in excess of 25 feet in height. Construction completed in 1993 - Construction cost: $2,481,000.

Watters Road
(Bethany Rd. to McDermott)

Allen, Texas
Wier & Associates, Inc. designed the reconstruction and widening of the existing two-lane asphalt roadway to a six-lane concrete divided roadway section between Bethany and McDermott. Wier & Associates performed field surveys for design as well as right-of-way determination throughout the variable width R.O.W. Four lanes were built in this phase of construction. The project is approximately 0.66 miles long. Construction included the design of a water line extension and storm drain improvements. Storm drain facilities included a triple box culvert and hydraulic analysis of water surface elevation. Construction completed in 2000. Construction cost: $1,600,000.

The F.M. 1938 rural farm-to-market roadway section is extremely overloaded due to recent urban development. The proposed improvements will alter the roadway into four lanes with a continuous left-turn lane. Wier & Associates, Inc. evaluated the existing horizontal and vertical alignment for adequate sight distance and prepared preliminary and final plans for 2.5 miles of the roadway. The rural ditch sections will be removed, and a curbed section constructed where possible, and the existing pavement will be overlaid and reused. Parallel and cross drainage will be improved by routing and construction of enclosed systems and by providing for cross drainage for a 100-year design storm. In addition to the paving and drainage design, services include design of traffic-control devices including four signalized intersections and one railroad crossing. Construction completed 1991 - Construction cost: $2,700,000.

This combined 1.4 mile route of two related ultimate six-lane arterial streets is being designed by Wier & Associates, Inc. as a consultant to City. Engineering design tasks included coordination with the Corps of Engineers on 404 permit issues as well as HEC-2 analyses of Sublett Creek (a FEMA tributary to Rush Creek) to control design of overflow channels and floodplain modifications required to allow two major box culvert crossings (created by the proposed roadways) which needed to be constructed without creating an unallowable rise in the water surface on adjacent properties. Alternative alignment studies and preliminary plans for these roadways (including street lighting design) have been submitted to the City for review prior to final design and complete of construction plans and specifications. Construction scheduled 2008 - Estimated Construction cost: $2,800,000.

Wier & Associates, Inc. has designed the reconstruction and widening of the existing four-lane asphalt divided roadway to a six-lane concrete divided roadway section between Mayfield Road and Arkansas Lane, reconstruction of a six-lane undivided concrete pavement section between Arkansas Lane and Highway 303 with the same configuration, but with added dual-left, single-right turning lanes, retaining wall construction, and storm drain construction. The project is approximately 1.08 miles long.

Denton Tapp Road

Wier & Associates, Inc. designed construction plans for the reconstruction and widening of the existing two-lane asphalt roadway into a six-lane divided arterial street. Design of the roadway, HEC-2 analysis of Denton Creek and plans for the reconstruction of a 190-foot long, six-lane bridge crossing over Denton Creek. Bridge design includes provisions for a high-speed bike path underpass along Denton Creek. The bridge design included sheet piles along the existing stream to restrain erosion of the bridge embankments. Construction completed April 1999 - Construction cost: $3,290,600.

Eden Road

The project consists of constructing a four-lane divided boulevard section, the major intersection of Eden Road and Collins Street, free right-turns and associated storm drainage improvements. In Phase I, Wier & Associates, Inc. designed and prepared construction plans for roadway and drainage improvements to convert 0.8 miles from a two-lane rural asphalt roadway to a four-lane divided arterial. Construction completed 1996 - Construction Cost: $1,709,914.

In Phase II, Wier & Associates, Inc. evaluated alignment alternatives at the City's request. After the City selected an alignment Wier & Associates, Inc. prepared construction plans, specifications and contract documents for roadway and drainage improvements for reconstruction and widening to a four-lane width for 0.8 miles of the existing two-lane asphalt roadway. The design included HEC-2 analysis of Hog Creek required for two major box culvert crossings which need to be constructed without creating an unallowable rise in the water surface on adjacent properties. Construction completed 1998 - Construction cost: $1,999,883.

Broad Street

At the request of the City, Wier & Associates, Inc. evaluated roadway alignment alternatives for the realignment and reconstruction of East Broad Street. Wier & Associates, Inc. designed plans for the realignment and reconstruction of 2.3 miles of this initial four-lane divided arterial which can be expanded in the future to a six-lane divided arterial. Construction completed 1999 - Construction cost: $4,140,000.

Park Springs Boulevard

At the request of the City, Wier & Associates, Inc. evaluated roadway alignment, bridge alignment, and right-of-way alternatives relative to the pro­posed 2.1 mile extension of Park Springs Boule­vard from the existing Kelly Perkins bridge over I.H.-20 northward across Rush Creek to Arkansas Lane. After the City selected an alignment from the options provided, field and aerial topographic surveys were conducted for final design. The project was designed as an initial four-lane divided facility which can be expanded in the future to a six-lane divided arterial street, including a 217-foot-long, six-lane bridge across Rush Creek. Design completion 1988 - Construction cost: $4,500,000.

Wier & Associates, Inc. had previously designed the section of Green Oaks to the south of this section and designed the nearby Lamar Blvd. extension. The subject Phase 3 section is part of a project funded by the State Department of Highways and Public Transportation as part of the "PASS" (Principal Arterial Street System). Wier & Associates, Inc. was authorized by the City to complete design, construction plans and specifications, and right-of-way documents for paving and storm drainage improvements along this critical 0.40 mile connecting link of ultimate 6-lane arterial thoroughfare of this much needed corridor under IH-30. Design included modification to the existing IH-30 bridge columns to accommodate channelization of Village Creek. Construction completed 1992 - Construction cost: $800,000.

Wier & Associates provided services for reconstruction of a 0.8 mile existing rural roadway section into a four-lane, 49' back-to-back collector. Design services included horizontal roadway alignment recommendations, establishing proposed right-of-way and easements, design of streets and drainage improvements, design of pavement markers and two signalized intersections, and indicating utility locations. The project was completed in 1988. Construction scheduling and specifications regarding scheduling were critical to avoid undue disruption of elementary and junior high schools and a Methodist Church which are accessed via the roadway. Construction completed 1988 - Construction Cost: $913,000.

Welch Avenue

Wier & Associates, Inc., has completed construction plans and specifications for the reconstruction of Welch Avenue, a dilapidated 40 foot wide asphalt collector street in southwest Fort Worth. The 1.2 mile project includes proposed pavement section reconstruction, an analysis of drain capacity of the existing storm drainage systems, and grading design to eliminate a sight distance problem within the limits of the project. Street grade design will also be critical to improve the storm drainage capacity of the roadway. Construction completed 1989 - Construction cost: $927,000.

Bethany Drive/Millennium Office Park

This project provided the public infrastructure for a 55-acre office park. The project included the widening of Bethany Drive to a 4-lane divided roadway, as well as the interior streets for the Office Park, Epoch Drive and Venture Drive. Bethany was re-constructed from I-75 to the existing bridge crossing Watters Creek. Wier & Associates provided all of the topographic surveys and detailed cross-sections for the HEC study of Watters Creek. The project included one mile of paving, 2,300 L.F. of storm drain, 4,550 L.F. of water line and 1,850 L.F. of sanitary sewer. Construction completed in 1998. Construction cost: $1,900,000.

This alignment is in the flood fringe of Village Creek and required considerable floodplain and wetland mitigation services in addition to normal roadway and storm drainage design. Valleyview and Sylvan Heights Addition
(Residential neighborhoods in South Central Arlington North of Park Row, between Mitchell & Collins)

A tributary creek to Johnson creek traverses this neighborhood developed in the 1950-1960 decades. Undersized channels, inlets, and culvert crossings have repeatedly created historic flooding problems in the area. The city retained Wier & Associates, Inc. to evaluate alternative solutions.

The drainage evaluation consisted of flood studies and improvement recommendations to correct or improve the level of flood protection and decrease the frequency of flooding of street crossings and properties immediately adjacent to the existing main water course of the watershed.

Results of study were summarized in a report dated July, 1991 with appropriate exhibits. After review and approval, the city engaged Wier & Associates, Inc. to design and prepare construction plans, specifications and right-of-way documents for authorized improvements. Construction completed 1992 - Construction cost: $1,091,000.
