Ulys Lane’s path was to be a Civil Engineer and the good Lord prepared him well. He completed his first wastewater design-build rehabilitation project when he was a young boy, spending a summer digging up a septic line that had filled and then reinstalling after cleaning out the concrete tile pipes his father had made. Ulys worked with his father every day after he got home from work checking and measuring progress and then lining out the next day. Working hard, planning a project and getting it done were lessons he learned at an early age. Those lessons stuck with Ulys as he was a brick layer’s helper, an inspector, a surveyor, a civil technician and then eventually graduating college to be a Civil Engineer.
Ulys’ early experience as an Engineer was primarily in Municipal Engineering where he designed four wastewater treatment facilities, numerous water transmission and distribution systems, as well as other water and wastewater work.
At Wier & Associates, Ulys has been a Project Manager and Principal for over thirty years. He has designed and managed unique projects in various areas of Civil Engineering and has become a skilled land planner for mixed-use, residential & commercial developments. Many of his projects involved design of dams and lake amenities coupled with mitigation or enhancement of 404 jurisdictional areas. Mr. Lane has designed, managed or acted as Principal in Charge on over 50 roadway projects with emphasis in Hydrology and Hydraulic Analysis.
Ulys was honored by the TSPE DFW Mid-Cities Chapter as “Engineer of the Year” in 1997 and “Young Engineer of the Year” in 1985. He is also a former P&Z Commission chairman for the City of Mansfield.
